Abstract:

U In this paper we derive an expression for the output intensity of a general Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyroscope IFOG. The light source is assumed to be non-monocromatic with an arbitrary frequency distribution function belonging to L2 R. This result is expanded and expressed in terms of the parameters involved in the definition of each of the four entries of the clockwise Jones matrix of a generic IFOG with an even frequency distribution. We obtain an expression for the Sagnac phase shift error and compute it for a Gaussian, rectangular, and triangular frequency distribution function. The clockwise loop Jones matrix of a fairly general IFOG model is computed. Matlab programs for computing the output intensity and Sagnac phase shift error are also included.
