We have developed the basic science underlying active quasi-optics. We have investigated power handling, noise, stability, efficiency and reliability, and developed the CAD tools necessary for industrial applications. In addition, we have demonstrated a single-chip output power of 5 W in the millimeter-wave frequency range, and developed practical waveguide packaging techniques for the devices. In the lower microwave frequency range we have developed a coaxial fin-line combiner that gives an output power of SOW with a 31 bandwidth. These demonstrations, together with the design techniques we have developed, should allow industry to solve the critical problems of multi-watt level solid-state power sources for millimeter waves, and broad-band high-power sources at lower microwave frequencies.
