In order to identify surface antigens that are differentially expressed in prostate cells during progression from normal to the cancerous and metastatic states, we are using antibody phage display and paired cell lines that differ in metastatic potential. In this method affinity subtraction and purification selects recombinant monoclonal antibodies binding to antigens that differ between closely related cell types, even without prior knowledge of the nature of the antigens involved. Research associates and students are being trained in a variety of techniques towards this goal.
