Estimation of Manoeuvring Targets using Hybrid Filters

This report examines the problem of estimating the location, velocity and maneuver of a maneuvering target from range, bearing and pose information. The report considers a nonlinear modeling technique in which the target is represented as a hybrid system a combination of discrete and continuous valued states and considers new associated approaches such as the polymorphic estimator. Although simulation studies were performed, the polymorphic estimator had serious numeric problems that suggested the estimator should not be used until the approach is refined. This report is intended to facilitate further discussion and development of the approach if deemed necessary hence, it includes details of the assumptions made and the MatlabTrademark implementation.
