Abstract:

When a crack experiences plane strain conditions and lies along the interface between incompressible materials, the near tip field equations are simplified by the vanishing of the bimaterial parameter, epsilon. Finite element models that use a mixed formulation can be used to characterize the complex stress intensity factor of these cracks completely. This is done by using J integral calculations and a regression of the ratio of bond line traction components to r 0.
