Abstract:
The objective this project was to develop biaxially textured buffer layer on metal substrate needed for the growth of high-temperature superconductor such as yttrium-barium-copper-oxide. UES, in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory, has developed a multilayer architecture based on in-plane textured MgO film by inclined substrate deposition technique oristatic and moving Hastelloy substrates. The layer-by-layer epitaxy was verified by using x-ray pole figure and phi-scan analysis of the multilayered samples. Yttrium-barium-copper-oxide layer grown on this multilayer architecture by pulsed laser deposition process exhibited Tsub c of 89K and Jsub c in the range 1-2 x 10exp 5 Asq cm.
