Abstract:

This report provides a basis for the description of the mechanical and optical properties of birefringent, viscoelastic materials, and for the application of these materials in experimental stress analysis by photomechanics. The experimental procedure applied to two plane stress problems. Preparation of the model, characterization of the material, and the test apparatus are also described.
