Abstract:

More and more children with mothers who work out side of the home are participating in after school programs, and increased federal and state funding suggests that the number of such programs will continue to grow in the coming years. Funding for the U.S. Department of Educations 21st Century Community Learning Centers alone increased from 1 million in 1997 to 450 million in 2000, with 1.5 billion proposed for 2002.
