Very little is known about the incidence, onset, time course, and symptomatology of premature menopause induced by breast cancer therapy. No prospective study has been reported. Accrual in the present study was begun on January 1, 1998 but has not reached target numbers using the original recruitment procedures. Therefore we have amended the protocol to accrue patients not treated at the three centers. We have increased public awareness of participating in this study by advertising by displaying self-referral brochures at Y-ME, Susan Komen Foundation, and SHARE by Internet access in the form of a web page which is linked to other cancer pages and by mass mailing physicians in the NY Breast Cancer Study Group and the American Society of Breast Diseases an introductory letter and brochures. We have enrolled 185 study subjects and are aiming at the goal of 800 study subjects.
