Its long-range intercept capability will help protect broad areas, dispersed assets, and population centers against theater ballistic missile attacks. The program is budgeted by the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization and executed by the Army. The Ballistic Missile Defense Organization plans to acquire 80 launchers 1,319 intercept missiles and 14 fire-control radar sensors and battle managementcommand, control, communication, and intelligence tactical operating centers at a cost exceeding 10 billion then-year dollars.
