Abstract:
The originally announced objective of the audit was to determine whether the DoD GME programs were cost-effectively and efficiently managed and to evaluate the management control program applicable to the primary audit objective. Because our survey indicated that the DoD GME programs may not adequately consider readiness training and wartime requirements, we reannounced the audit to focus on determining whether DoD physician education programs include adequate medical readiness training, and what GME programs are needed to support readiness requirements. Because of issues related to methodologies for costing medical care, and because of ongoing efforts to determine wartime physician requirements, we did not determine whether the DoD GME programs are managed cost-effectively and efficiently.
