This report is one in a series of reports on the Department of Defenses DOD management of secondary inventory-spare and repair parts and other items that support DoDs operating forces on land, at sea, and in the air. As requested, we focused this review on inventory the Air Force had on contract that is, ordered but not yet delivered that was excess to current operating requirements. Specifically to determine whether the Air Force was canceling purchases that exceeded current operating requirements, we judgmentally selected and reviewed 160 items with inventory valued at 162.4 million on contract that exceeded current operating requirements as of September 30, 1997.
