Abstract:

Visceral leishmaniasis is an infection of the reticuloendothelial system caused by a protozoan of the Leishmania donovani complex. The lack of orally effective agents for visceral leishmaniasis prompted the clinical development of WR6026, a primaquine analog found to be highly active in animal testing. This study was an open-label, dose-escalating trial of WR6026 in the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis caused by L. chagasi.
