Abstract:
The primary objectives of this report were the following 1 to evaluate the suitability of commercial wireless technology products, services, waveforms and protocols, components, and standards for Army tactical applications, 2 to recommend areas where Army 6.16.2 research funding might yield solutions to wireless communications problems that are of particular concern for the military and thus unlikely to be addressed by industry-funded research, and 3 to explain the competing factors tradeoffs that must be weighed when selecting between alternative systems or technological solutions, and to suggest a general methodology for understanding these tradeoffs.
