Abstract:

Fort Douglas was recommended for closure and realignment by the Defense Secretarys Commission on Base Realignment and Closure in December 1988. As stipulated by Section 120h of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act CERCLA, the closure and transfer of the property must be preceded by an evaluation of hazardous substances which are known or suspected to be present at the site. Therefore, under the management of the U. S. Army Environmental Center USAEC, formerly the U.S. Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency USATHAMA, an Environmental Investigation El and Alternatives Analysis AA have been conducted for the excessed area of Fort Douglas, approximately 51 acres.
