The object of the research funded under this grant is to study the unsteady aerodynamic forces and moments induced on cascade blades by a convected density gradient that is more or less normal to the flow path. Previous investigators have considered the effect of a variety of convected disturbances on cascade, compressor, and turbine performance. However, we believe this is the first investigation to focus on the production of unsteady loads associated with this process. The size and frequency content of these loads, when combined with other loads as fan, compressor and turbine blades have the potential to reduce the blades high cycle fatigue life.
