Abstract:
Over the last few years several breakthroughs in the Supermolecular SM domain have being accomplished or foreseen in the near future 1 bigger molecules are being synthesis 2 crystals with larger unit cells are being obtained and 3 more and more molecular components are used to build SM compounds with increasing versatility in applications. This Conference will bring together experts in synthesis and chemical reactivity, in preparation of crystalline compounds, and in methodologies for analysing large SM Assemblies. The stability and properties of such Assemblies heavily depend upon their three-dimensional 3D structure involving specific patterns of non covalent bonds and interactions. The difficulty in making complex SM compounds and obtaining structural information has increased to such a level, that a single technique is not sufficient. Various methods are now made available for obtaining, characterizing and analysing SM compounds including crystallography, 2D layers, NMR, AFMSTM, FABMS, time-resolved phenomena, computational approaches and others. The efficiency of these methods will be examine in the light of recent or foreseen developments in synthesis and formation of large Assemblies. Further improvements can be expected by combining methods that provide complementary information.
