Abstract:

The advent of multimedia provides new and untested tools for improving team training. Specifically, technologies now allow for easy application of visual augmentation to computer displays that may enhance performance and learning. However, not enough is known about the implementation of display augmentation techniques which lead to enhanced team performance. An approach receiving attention is highlighting display elements. The objective of the current study was to determine if the use of display augmentation, specifically highlighting important display characteristics, during a training intervention could improve performance on a team task. It was hypothesized that participants in the highlighted condition would perform better than those in the other two conditions.
