The goals of this program were investigate fundamental femtosecond-timescale phenomena in photonic materials and device structures, and to evaluate and demonstrate the potential of these phenomena for device applications. Significant progress was made in several areas, in the development of new solid state femtosecond laser and fiber lasers, and in the application of femtosecond optics to studies of novel semiconducting and superconducting materials and waveguide structures.
