Abstract:

The overall purpose is to determine the significance of variant protein products of the HER-2neu oncogene in signaling and prognosis in human breast cancer. The HER-2neu oncogene is over expressed and predicts poor prognosis in human breast cancer. The extracellular domain ECD of the HER-2neu encoded protein is shed from the surface of breast carcinoma cells and is elevated in sera from patients with metastatic breast cancer. We have recently identified a truncated p95HER-2neu cytoplasmic kinase that may be the end left when the ECD is shed from cells.
