During January and February 1996, R. That project corridor encompassed approximately 311 ac 125.9 ha. The survey was conducted for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, in response to planned construction activities associated with a hurricane protection project that would enclose Mandeville at Causeway Boulevard, Lake Pontchartrain, and Little Bayou Castine. Archival research was used to obtain information about the distribution of cultural resources in the project area and about the prehistoric and historic cultural development throughout the St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana project area. This information then was used to infer the quantity and quality of cultural resources that might be identified during the archeological andor architectural surveys of the project item. item.
