Abstract:
A new high temperature testing system was designed with capabilities of fast heatingcooling, minimum effective heating zone focusing only on specimen gauge length area. The tensioncompression testing can be performed in air, vacuum, or inert gas environment at high temperatures up to 1700 degrees Celsius while the displacement of a specimen measured by a new Argon laser interferometry system. The target specimens are ceramics, metals, intermetallics, composites including carboncarbon composites. The furnace is infrared image furnace with gold plated elliptical reflectors to create a focused effective high temperature zone.
