Abstract:

Building 117-2 houses the central steam plant serving WADF facilities. The steam plant was originally designed and constructed under requirements for dual fuel firing, one of which was required to be coal. The smallest dual fuel capable boilers available at that time were installed. The three Keeler 50,000 PPH steam boilers do not turn-down well low load efficiencies are much lower than efficiencies at greater loads and have never been operated after their initial acceptance testing. They have been, and remain, mothballed. When the WADF was placed into operation several years ago, a packaged fire tube boiler was installed in the boiler plant to provide steam service only to WADF facilities at high efficiency. The boiler is located in the service bay at the North-West corner of the building and utilizes the deaerating Feedwater Heater and other ancillary equipment installed to serve the three 50,000 PPH coal fired steam boilers.
