In order to manufacture goods and produce services, we require huge amounts of oil energy. In extreme cases, for example, it takes 10 million barrels of oil to build an aircraft carrier. To operate a battle group during its life cycle, it consumes approximately 64 million barrels of oil. Thus, to utilize many of the products, we need considerable amounts of this energy. Moreover, to dispose of them or to recycle them also requires additional amounts of energy.
