In October 1996, manned dives were conducted to evaluate the ability of the MK-24 microphone and AN,POS headset communicationS components to produce intelligible speech while diving with the MK-16 MOD 0 Underwater Breathing ApparatuS UBA in closed and open circuit modes and while breathing HeD2 and N202 at various depths. The objectives were to evaluate the ability of the MK-24 microphone to produce intelligible speech with divers breathing ReD2 0.7PPO to 300 few and shallower both with and without a helium speech unscrambler HSU To evaluate the ability of the MK-24 microphone to produce intelligible speech with divers breathing N202 0.7PP02 in closed circuit mode and air in the open-circuit mode to 150 few and shallower. To evaluate the ability of the ANPOS headset to reproduce intelligible speech from topside and between divers breathing ReD2 0.7PPO2, N202 0.7PPO2 and air to 300 fsw and shallower both with an without an HSU.
