Abstract:

This publication is the keystone document for C4 systems support to joint operations and provides guidelines to our commanders regarding automated information systems and networks. A vast array of information, underpinned by joint doctrine, is utilized to employ combat power across the broad range of military operations. Command, control, communications, and computer C4 networks and systems provide the means to synchronize joint forces. Improved interoperability, greater reliability, and enhanced security achieved through rapid advances in information technology are essential for effective command and control as we enter the 21st Century. Automated information systems and networks provide the predominant source from which the warfighter generates, receives, shares, and utilizes information. The synthesis of advanced C4 capabilities and sound doctrine leads to battlespace knowledge essential to success in conflict.
