Abstract:
The Force Projection component of our Post-Cold War National Military Strategy relies significantly upon increased airlift and sealift assets. The US Air Force C-17 Globemaster is an important enabling airlift resource now in mid-procurement. Despite its capabilities, now being demonstrated across the globe, this major system almost didnt come into being. This study looks at the details of the C-17 acquisition program and discusses the key factors that enabled its transformation from a business debacle to an overall success.
