Abstract:

The past three decades have seen a measurable change in Americas values -- a change that can be described as a decrease or degradation. Intangible beliefs and measures of worth are eroding at an alarming rate. Given that values are the backbone of the code of the Armed Forces and that the United States military is a reflection of our society, this degradation will have a profound effect on the core holdings that have been characteristic of our soldiers for centuries. The future of the Armed Forces of the United States will require commissioned and non-commissioned officers to instruct, mentor, and set the example in an unprecedented manner if we are to preserve values and worth.
