Abstract:
Since the end of the Cold War era United States military forces have experienced an increased role in Military Operations Other Than War MOOTW. During this same period U.S. military forces have faced the problems of reduced budgets and downsizing of forces. The effects of reduced defense expenditures, downsizing, and instability in the world has seriously challenged the U.S. militarys ability to maintain warfighting readiness and respond to future MOOTW. This paper examines the effects of MOOTW on military readiness, and the feasibility of an increased role of the Reserve Components in MOOTW.
