Abstract:

The United States Army has been representative of the nations population since its creation. Historically, a common set of values and ethics, and adherence thereto has been part of that bond. The latter is no longer true. With the dramatic change in American social norms in the 20th Century, the populations tolerance for reinterpretation of institutional values and ethics rose significantly. This tolerance, in conjunction with a transition to the primacy of personal rights over institutional needs, has resulted in a society where the good of the many is subordinated to the good of the few.
