Abstract:

Is the Armys plan for feeding the force beyond the year 2000 viable and adequate In the 21st century, food will become a precious commodity. One that will need to be safeguarded and managed carefully. In order to deal with this dilemma, the Army will need to develop new food initiatives and policies on how to procure, manage, equip and distribute its food supply. This type of managerial oversight must be sustained from the marketplace until the food reaches the customer soldiers in the field. The development of new ways to preserve, prepare, store, and deliver food on and off the battlefield is on the horizon. The principles of focused logistics will be used to enable the logistician to provide the battlespace commander the right meal, at the right place, at the right time.
