Abstract:
In order for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers USACE to remain competitive in its role as the nations engineer, it must scrub its processes, eliminate redundancies and improve its methods of producing consistent products across the organization. Quality improvement programs such as Total Quality Management TQM and the Army Performance Improvement Criteria APIC are steps in the right direction but they leave out the key first step of establishing and documenting the organizations baseline procedures. ISO 9000 is a tool that can fill this gap. This paper will review where USACE is today and how ISO 9000 can fit into the organizational structure to provide the needed baseline to ensure the delivery of quality products and satisfied customers for the future.
