Abstract:

The Water Quality Branch of the Armstrong Laboratory, Occupational and Environmental Health Directorate, Bioenvironmental Engineering Division performed a Desktop Corrosion Control Study for Dover Air Force Base, Delaware following Environmental Protection Agency EPA Guidance. Specifically, the study was performed for the Eagle Meadows Military Family Housing Annex at Dover AFB. Using the EPA seven step approach for completing desktop evaluations, the recommended treatment option for the housing annex is phosphate inhibitors. The water supplied to the housing annex, with a natural pH of approximately 7.5, appears to be an ideal candidate for the use of phosphate inhibitors. Capital costs for setting up the required chemical feed system should be approximately 1,200. Chemicals will cost approximately 5,000 each year they may cost more or less depending on the selected inhibitor. Additional capital expenses may be associated with required safety equipment or facility construction. The contractor selected to provide the inhibitor should be able to install the chemical feed system and provide specific information on the annual cost of the inhibitor, maintenance requirements, and inhibitor dosage.
