The understanding of the fundamental mechanisms involved in the interaction between bubblesfree surfaces and vortical flows is of relevance to many important naval applications. Classical assumptions of bubble sphericity and decoupling between bubble and flow behavior prevent one from capturing essential elements of the interaction, and might lead to incorrect conclusions with serious consequences. Bubble motion and deformation are seen to be of great importance for most bubbles in the size spectrum. In this report studies on various aspects of bubble interaction with vortical flows, and the appearance of sheet cavitation on hydrofoils in vortical flows are reported.
