Abstract:
The Federal Logistics Information System FLIS is a government-wide program established by law and administered by the Department of Defense DoD in conjunction with the Administrator of the General Services Administration. The FLIS is a management system designed to collect, store, process, and provide item related logistics information. The FLIS is open-ended and capable of being expanded to accommodate additional logistics data management concepts and applications. For the purposes of FLIS, logistics is the science of accomplishing the description, acquisition, storage, distribution, maintenance, and disposition of military materiel and civilian products for Government use. The information in the FLIS data bank relates to military activities, Federal Civil Agencies, participating foreign countries, and private industry. The FLIS Procedures Manual provides operating procedures for processing logistics information in the following major areas 1 Supply Management 2 Item Identification 3 Mass and Tailored Interrogations 4 DoD Interchangeability and Substitutability IS Family Data and 5 Standardization. This manual contains operating procedures for the establishment and maintenance of the FLIS data base.
