Abstract:

This feasibility study FS for the Explosives Washout Lagoons Site 4 Soils Operable Unit at the U.S. Army Depot Activity at Umatilla UMDA has been prepared to evaluate potential remedial alternatives for mitigating soil contamination at the site. The FS provides a summary of remedial investigation information a summary of the baseline risk assessment prepared by Dames a Moore remedial action objectives identification and screening of potentially viable technologies and a detailed evaluation of alternatives assembled from the most promising technologies. The alternatives evaluated in detail are No Action, excavation followed by incineration and excavation followed by composting. Incineration is a proven method of destroying explosives contaminants with an effectiveness greater than 99.99 percent.
