Abstract:
Although military historians have filled libraries with valuable information concerning deception, it was not until Operation Desert Storm that military leaders used deception as an integral part of a major operation. During Operation Desert Storm, deception surfaced as a major force multiplier after being largely ignored from World II until Persian Gulf War. Ironically, deception was never used as a force multiplier during the Korean War or the Vietnam War. Ultimately, if deception is to remain a major force multiplier the military needs to continue to examine and to re-evaluate practice and doctrine. As history proved, operational success is enhanced when deception is a central part of the operation. KAR p. 1
