Abstract:

The current trend in U.S. Military thinking toward a more joint approach to warfare ignores the truly decisive impact that Air and Naval forces have had since the end of the second World War. U.S. preponderant force, political influence, and technological edge have provided a unique opportunity for our military to fight and win decisively from the air and sea without undue risk to our ground troops. Historical evidence from World War 11 and most recently the Persian Gulf War highlight the strategic impact of air and naval forces and point the way toward a future where the role of ground forces will be reduced in many situations across the operational spectrum.
