Abstract:
The goals of this project involve the use of innovative acoustic techniques to study new materials and new developments in solid state physics. Major accomplishments include a the submission of a Phys. Rev. Lett. paper on the use of resonant ultrasound spectroscopy RUS to determine the isotropy of a quasicrystal, b the identification of a problem with the RUS analysis technique, c the construction of a major facility for the study of fracture, and d the preparation of a draft of a paper on a resonant photoacoustic technique.
