We have investigated the problems of measuring range sidelobes by using a small sphere ka 15 as a target. This measurement scheme requires coherent integration to increase the signal-to-noise ratio at the sidelobes to a level where accurate estimation is possible. We determined that two pathologic coherent responses can occur in this situation. A wave creeping around the sphere causes the formation of an asymmetric range sidelobe that lags the main response. We find that the relative level of coherent errors, whose magnitude is below the noise on a single plus basis, is invariant with coherent integration. Range sidelobes, Creeping waves.
