Computational fluid dynamics CFD predictions of static aerodynamic coefficients for large caliber 120-mm M829-like cone-cylinder-flare kinetic energy KE projectile shapes are presented. Zero-yaw drag and static pitch- plane aerodynamic coefficients are presented for velocities in the range 1.5 to 3.0 kmsec for several flare angles. The aerodynamic coefficients are required to assess the velocity retardation and static stability of candidate configurations that use the M829 projectile as a basis for design. Comparisons of the aerodynamic coefficients are made with those of the fielded M829 projectile, and a preliminary evaluation is made of the performance of these shapes in hypersonic flight.
