Abstract:
Eight different makes of multigas monitors were evaluated for use by U.S. Coast Guard field personnel. The meters were evaluated with regard to linearity of response to methane, oxygen and hydrogen sulfide levels ability to do remote sampling, accuracy for each type of gas alarm response time, portability, bulk, eight 8 hour battery charge for NiCad versions dry cell versions also tested when available ease of use temperature and humidity effects, and resistance to shock of impacts. Two of the instruments were significantly better than the rest in most respects
