Abstract:

This thesis reviews the Functional Process Improvement methodology developed by the Department of Defense. Use of Functional Process Improvement, and its related software tool set, provides the Corporate Information Management CIM initiative with a means of implementing business process improvements through functional, technical, and economic analysis of alternatives. Review of this methodology consists of analyzing Department of Defense and Department of the Navy implementation guidance. Additionally, specific case study examples are explored and utilized. The analysis identifies the methodologys limitations and its strengths. Included is a discussion of the Department of Defenses efforts to limit the impact of the perceived weaknesses, and exploit the methodologys inherent strengths.
