SMU was awarded DARPA Contract MDA 97289-C-0054 in Jan. 1989 to 1 complete deploy the GERESS Seismic Array in S.E. Germany, establish workstations which accept the array data at Bochum and NORSAR and provide the interface to the Intelligent Array System at NORSAR, 2Acquire commercial communication links for the GERESS Array, 3 Acquire 6 new exportable CD stations and assist in their installation at foreign locations designated by the COTR, 4Provide 6 domestic CD stations establish the US GSE Network with capability to transmit data from each station to the archive facility at UCSD. 5 Acquire commercial communication links to handle the data for the 6 US stations, 6 Provide operations maintenance for equipment at the 6 US stations, 7 Acquire 2 workstations for the NDC in D.C. to interface with the U.S. GSE network. Provide maintenance for these 2 workstations, 8 Operate the CD stations at Lajitas TX and Blacksburg VA, 9 Support US participation in the 1990 GSE experiment, and 10 Transfer equipment from MDA 972-88-K-0001 to combine with equipment from this contract to provide system described above. GERESS array includes several improvements and features which differentiate from NORESS, ARCESS FINESA. GERESS Acceptance tests were held in Aug 1990 and the Inteleseis Array Controller was deemed acceptable by SMURUB in September 1993.
