Abstract:
The current shutdown of Rocky Flats weapons component production facilities and the uncertain duration of the shutdown prevents us from making projections as to when on-site TRU-mixed waste storage capacity will be reached. However, once restarted, production could continue for as long as 6 to 8 months, depending on how successful Rocky Flats is in identifying and removing some nonregulated wastes from the current inventory. Production beyond this point cannot be assured until Rocky Flats installs a supercompactor to reduce the volume of waste stored on-site or arrangements are made to store the TRU-mixed waste off-site.
