This paper addresses the feasibility of friction welding as an approach to join aluminum to ceramics. Potential advantages include the localised heating below the melting point of the parent materials, and the short time required to produce the bond. Metalceramic combinations examined include aluminumsilicon nitride, aluminumsilicon carbide, aluminumzirconia and aluminumaluminum nitride.
