Effects of Temperature Changes on the Output of Time-Integrating Correlators

This technical note presents an analysis of the effects of temperature changes on the output correlation peak of a time-integrating correlator. Temperature fluctuations cause changes in the acoustic velocity in Bragg cells and important alterations of the format of the output. The relation between the temperature and the acoustic velocity changes, the amplitude of the output correlation peak and the measurements of the difference of time of arrival of the input signals are calculated for two different formats of the output. For the first format, when the output does not contain any fringe before temperature change, a temperature control within 0.089 deg C is required to limit the fluctuation of the amplitude of the output peak to less than 10. In the second case, with an optimal multi-fringe pattern, the detection of a correlation peak is resistant to temperature changes. To avoid errors in the measurement of the time difference of arrival, a temperature control within 5.4 deg C is required.
