Abstract:

This report describes the ongoing thermomechanical studies of tungsten heavy alloys at the Materials Directorate of the Army Research Laboratory. Building upon previous work, the data obtained has been correlated to microstructural features before and after testing and evaluated using well known constitutive relations. In past efforts a 91 tungsten heavy alloy was examined. This work examines the effect of strain rate and temperature on a 91 and a 97 heavy alloy and a commercially pure 100 tungsten. The apparent occurrence of dynamic recrystallization is also discussed. Tungsten heavy alloys, Strain rate, Microstructure, Arrhenius equation, Recrystallization, Activation energy.
