Abstract:
Calculations of the time distributions for narrow-beam sources and receivers were utilized in an integration procedure to predict the time distribution of a single received by a synchronous satellite due to a point isotropic source located beneath a dome shaped cloud. This time distribution is compared with a POLOE Monte Carlo calculation of the time dependent signal at a synchronous satellite for a point isotropic source within an infinite cloud layer. The comparisons are favorable for times beyond approximately 0.2 microseconds. At earlier times the time distribution based upon the narrow-beam results overpredicts the POLOE results by almost two orders of magnitude.
