Abstract:
The theoretical and practical implementation of a measurement technique to obtain both the low frequency acoustic and thermal sensitivities of a fibre optic hydrophone is discussed. An analysis program based on the theory was implemented in Microsoft Excel to obtain the pressure sensitivity of a fibre optic interferometric hydrophone transducer. This method is based on ramping pressures at different rates. A major advantage of the technique is the temperature and pressure effects are clearly delineated and the test system need not be in thermal equilibrium.
